You feel your legs falling asleep. Your eyes are glazed over. You’ve been staring at the same screen for several hours just trying to get work done. At this point, your brain is fried and you still have plenty of hours left in the day. The best thing to do for yourself (and your work) is to get out of your chair and do some exercises. We’ve gone ahead and found a few for you.
Get strollin’
Let’s start simple with a quick walk down the hall. This may seem like common sense, but sometimes we get so into our screens we forget about everything else in the world. Get up, walk down the hall, and maybe say hi to someone new in the office.
Start at the toes
This one you can do while you’re typing away. If you’re in a more uptight office space, wriggle your toes in your shoe. It may seem small, but every movement could make a difference.
Get those arms in the air
Take your hands off the keyboard and put them behind your head for a great triceps stretch. Once one of your hands is behind your back, grab that elbow with your other hand and hold for 10 to 30 seconds. Then repeat. After a minute, you’ll be able to return back to your work feeling refreshed.
Look up and around Stretch your neck with a simple exercise. Lean your head over and roll it towards one side. Hold for 10 seconds and then repeat on the other side. For an added bonus, rest your eyes and get a break from that harsh blue light.
Lower your wrist’s risk
Afraid of getting carpal tunnel syndrome from all of that typing? Stand up at your desk, place your palms down on your desk with your fingers facing you. Keep those arms straight and lower your body until you feel a good stretch.
Squeeze!
Tone up your bottom by squeezing and releasing after 10 seconds. This exercise will be an easy one to do without feeling like your coworkers are watching.
Let yourself fidget
Maybe you always thought fidgeting was annoying, but it’s a good way to keep yourself moving. Tap your fingers, play with your hair, tap your foot, or do anything that feels natural.
If you’re worried about looking odd, share these tips with your coworkers. Let us know how you keep fit during those long workdays.
