But we know you want to sleep. Some nights it’s just harder.
With sleep affecting everything from our emotions to our health, it should be a priority. Here’s how to get a quality night’s rest so you can attack the day with extra vigor.
Electronics an hour before bed? Don’t know them.
Turn off your electronics an hour before you go to bed. Cellphones and computers emit a blue light that makes it extra difficult to have a good night’s rest. If you really don’t think you can handle being away from your phone for that long, download an app that dims your phone and gets rid of the blue light for you.
Find the sunlight
Winter is finally over! Along with the snow melting away, we finally can catch some nice rays of sun. Exposing yourself to bright light during the day helps you catch some extra Z’s at night. After a long winter, it’s also amazing to feel sunlight on your face.
Keep a sleep schedule
Stop yourself from staying up late on weeknights. Try to go to bed around the same time you do during the weekdays. It may be hard skipping out on a night out, but it’s a small sacrifice to make for a little sleep and improved health.
Clear your mind of today’s gunk
Another benefit of giving yourself time away from electronics is to take some time and not think for awhile. If you find yourself thinking about all the things you have to do tomorrow, grab a journal or a piece of paper and write down everything that comes to mind. It doesn’t have to be much, but once you put it on paper you can concentrate on what’s important: sleep.
Upgrade your bed
This one takes some money, but it might be worth it for all the benefits a good night’s rest provides. If it’s been a few years, it may be time to get a new mattress. Take some time during your day and money out of your pocket to bring comfort into the night.
